The easiest way to get around Lake Tahoe is by car, you can explore over 70 miles of shoreline at the lake! You can rent a car at Reno/Tahoe International Airport (RNO) (about 50 miles from the Lake)

To get from the airport to your vacation rental in Tahoe, you can rent a car, take a cab or hop on a shuttle. The South Tahoe Airporter offers shuttle trips between the Reno airport and six casinos/resorts in South Lake Tahoe for about $30 per person one way.

Another option for travelers is the Sacramento International Airport only a two-hour drive away, served by 15 airlines offering more than 170 daily flights to over 40 nonstop destinations across the US, Canada, Mexico and Hawaii. Southwest Airlines is the largest carrier, followed by American, Delta and United.

Directions to South Lake Tahoe from the Bay Area:

Follow I-80 E and I-80BL E/Capital City Freeway to US-50 E in Sacramento
Keep left at the fork to continue on I-80BL E/US-50 E/Capital City Freeway, follow signs for Interstate 80 Business/Sacramento/South Lake Tahoe
Follow US-50 E to Lake Tahoe Blvd in South Lake Tahoe

Directions to South Lake Tahoe from Reno:

Get on I-80 E
Continue to Carson City
Drive to US-50 W in South Lake Tahoe
